Is our New Testament Reliable?
Is our New Testament the same as what left the hand of the apostles? Can we trust the course of transmission? Have not many corruptions crept into the text over the centuries, and can these corruptions be identified and eliminated? These and other questions occur to many, and some wild claims are being made by some on the far left (e.g. Dan Brown in The Da Vinci Code) to unsettle the faith of some as to the reliability of the new Testament. Then on the other hand there is the phenomenon on the far right of “King James Only-ism”, a movement which insists that only the so-called “Received Text of the sixteenth century, and the English translation of the scholars of 1611, is the only one which God Himself has authorised, and therefore the only version legitimate for the Church. The following pages therefore deal with the issues of textual criticism of the New Testament, the great manuscripts, the papyri, the early textual families, and so on.
See buttons on the left for the various issues discussed.
